Get an email when a live experiment session starts. One message per session. It says when the session began and roughly how long it will run. It never says when the focus windows are, because that is the part of the experiment nobody is allowed to know in advance.

By signing up you confirm that you are 18 or older and accept the participation notice, which covers taking part in a session from the link in an alert email.

We keep your address, the time you signed up, and a hashed form of your internet address (so we can see if one machine is signing up hundreds of times). The mail itself goes out through a commercial delivery provider, which sees the address in order to deliver it. The list lives on our own rented server; the hosting company could reach it in principle, and so could a court. Nobody else gets it. You will get one confirmation email first. If you do not click it within seven days, your row is deleted from our list; our web server's ordinary access logs are not edited. Unsubscribe is one click, any time.

The body is fixed. Every alert is this text with the blanks filled in and nothing added:

Subject: Ionosphere livestream starting -- {MODE}

An experiment session is starting now ({UTC time}). Planned length: about {span} hours.

Watch, or take part, here: {stream_url}

You are receiving this because you asked to be told when a session starts.
Stop these: {unsubscribe_url}

Each alert is logged with a hash of the body that went out, so anyone can check afterwards that it carried no schedule. The live page is where the session shows up. The live link in each alert carries a code from your sign-up. Arriving from that link tells our server which sign-up you came from and stands as the consent you gave here, so the live page opens in take-part mode without showing the notice again. Because the sign-up holds your email address, what you do on that visit is identifiable to the researcher. If you would rather not be linked, type the live address in by hand instead.
